The pastor’s sermon emphasizes the profound love and compassion of God as a Father. He begins by reflecting on Psalm 103:13-19, which illustrates God’s deep compassion for humanity, comparing it to the love of a father for his children. The pastor acknowledges that human fathers often fall short of this ideal, sharing a personal story of how he misunderstood his own father’s actions before realizing the hardships his father endured.
The sermon highlights three key points from the scripture:
God’s Compassionate Love: The pastor explains that unlike human fathers, God is the perfect, compassionate Father who knows our frailty and loves us despite our shortcomings. This is contrasted with the transient nature of human life, described as being like grass that withers, but God’s love endures forever.
Our Human Frailty: He emphasizes that we, as humans, are but dust, fragile and temporary. Yet, God’s love is everlasting, and through this love, we can overcome the shortness and transience of our lives.
God’s Sovereignty and Eternal Rule: The pastor concludes by affirming that God’s sovereignty extends over all things from everlasting to everlasting. Despite our human limitations, God’s rule is eternal, and He offers us the privilege of being part of His kingdom.
The sermon ends with a call to embrace God’s love and sovereignty, encouraging listeners to trust in Jesus Christ and to live selflessly, reflecting God’s compassion and care in their own lives. The pastor expresses gratitude for the assurance that God’s decree of love and salvation is unbreakable and eternal.
Psalm 103:13-19
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
15 The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children—
18 with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
