March 10, 2024
This week the pastor’s sermon revolves around the theme of making disciples and transforming the church according to the biblical mandate. He emphasizes the responsibility of disciples to actively engage in fulfilling Jesus’ command to make disciples. The pastor begins by introducing a series called “Go and Make Disciples,” highlighting the importance of this focus for the church’s direction.
He stresses that being a disciple entails following and obeying Jesus, rather than pursuing personal desires. The sermon delves into the concept of being “lukewarm,” drawing from Revelation 3:14-16, where Jesus expresses disdain for those who are neither hot nor cold in their commitment.
Throughout the sermon, the pastor challenges the congregation to evaluate their commitment to Christ and their involvement in furthering His kingdom. He encourages active participation in serving and bearing fruit, citing biblical passages such as Matthew 28:16-20, which commands disciples to make more disciples.
The pastor underscores the importance of building on a solid foundation of faith, rejecting sinful behaviors, and embracing the call to be active participants in God’s kingdom work. He also addresses contemporary challenges facing churches, such as compromising biblical principles for societal acceptance.
Additionally, the sermon includes a call to repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior for those who may be convicted of their sin. The pastor invites individuals to pray and acknowledge their need for forgiveness, encouraging them to align their lives with God’s will.
Overall, the sermon challenges believers to deepen their commitment to Christ, engage in discipleship, and actively contribute to the growth of the church and the spread of the Gospel. It emphasizes the importance of obedience, repentance, and building on a foundation of faith grounded in biblical truth.
Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission
16 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.
17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
